NOTE: DUE TO COVID, WE ARE NOT CURRENTLY ACCEPTING NEW READING VOLUNTEERS OR P.A.L.S. MEMBERS.
The Rescue Village Reading Program was designed to help our shelter animals become more adoptable. Reading helps bring comfort to and reduce the anxiety of shelter animals and nurtures empathy in children. Reading also helps shy animals learn to relax around people and kids and teaches high energy animals that calm behavior is desirable. And we all know, it’s a great way for kids to practice their reading skills.
NOTE: One parent is required to attend the training and must accompany the child every time they come to read. Closed-toed, rubber-soled shoes are required to protect your feet and give better traction when walking through animal areas. New readers need to attend ONE 30-minute training session, then will be given a schedule of available reading hours.
