Ford, a four-year-old shepherd mix, arrived at Rescue Village through our partners at the Mahoning County Dog Warden, who were out of space earlier this year. During his intake exam, our veterinary team found that he was fighting both heartworm disease and Lyme disease. Heartworm treatment required immediate attention to prevent permanent damage to his heart and lungs.
Ford began a full course of care that required strict rest and close monitoring. Staff and foster families managed his medications, kept him comfortable, and ensured that his activity stayed low while the treatment worked. His recovery followed the long, careful timeline that heartworm protocols require.

Ford remained with us for three and a half months. During that time, he completed his treatment, regained strength, and grew healthy enough to move toward adoption. When he was ready, he met a family who understood his medical history and felt prepared to support his continued care. They welcomed him into a stable home where he could continue to thrive.
Ford’s recovery reflects what donor support makes possible. Many animals arrive with medical needs that require time, supervision, and skilled veterinary care.
As Giving Tuesday, a national day of giving, approaches, a $25,000 match is open now through December 2.
Each $1 becomes $2, every gift is doubled, in care for animals who need time, treatment, and a safe place to land.
I look forward to sharing more rescue stories with you as part of our Giving Tuesday Campaign. Please give if you can to help more animals like Ford.
