The Honor and Duty of Service

When people think about Rescue Village, some of the first things that come to mind are rescuing animals and finding them new homes. This is for good reason because Rescue Village gives thousands of animals a fresh start at life every year by providing shelter, medical treatment, and adoptions.

Executive Director Kenneth Clarke with Board of Trustees President, Carrie Radivoyevitch

There are many other ways that Rescue Village serves Geauga County and beyond, providing humane solutions for animals and their people. At no cost to Ohio’s taxpayers, Rescue Village, also known as the Geauga County Humane Society, Inc., conducts humane investigations across the county to enforce Ohio’s anti-cruelty laws. Rescue Village works with the county sheriff’s office, the county prosecutor, and the courts on cases, either directly or indirectly in support of other law-enforcement agencies.
Rescue Village also works with thousands of people who call to report potential animal abuse that they witness. The sheriff or a concerned neighbor may call Rescue Village to report possible abuse. Rescue Village is obligated to follow up on these complaints and prosecute these crimes when necessary.

Yes, Rescue Village is also a law enforcement agency. However, Rescue Village’s Humane Officers are always looking for ways to help people. Sometimes, when potential abuse cases are discovered, Rescue Village’s Humane Officers, and Rescue Village as a whole, work with those people to help them take better care of their creatures. People in crisis typically own animals that are also in crisis. The cover story of this newsletter is just one of those cases.

I, along with everyone at Rescue Village, am so very thankful for everyone who helps make this work happen through your donations. We literally could not do this work without you, and you always respond to our call for help. We are grateful and honored to have you as our partner.
