Help Us Fight Animal Cruelty on Giving Tuesday

This horse suffered for a month. Our community brought him justice.

Those are difficult words to read—and even harder to witness. Yet this year, our Humane Law Enforcement team confronted a cruelty case that demanded urgency, courage, and compassion.

A young stallion named Cincinnati Oz had been transported from an auction by a hauler who ignored even the most basic safety precautions. The back door of the trailer had been left unlatched, swinging open as the vehicle moved at highway speeds. At some point during the trip, Oz fell from the trailer — a catastrophic and entirely preventable injury.

But what happened next is what made this case truly heartbreaking.

Instead of receiving the emergency veterinary care he desperately needed, Oz was hidden from his owner and from the veterinarian who had already prescribed euthanasia. For nearly a month, he was kept out of sight. He lived in pain that no animal could endure without help.

When our officers finally located him, the truth was undeniable. Oz had been suffering alone for far too long. Our team seized him immediately, had him examined by a veterinarian, and ensured that his suffering was ended with dignity. We then brought the full facts of the case before the court. The individual responsible was convicted of animal cruelty and placed under five years of strict probation, including legal restrictions on owning or hauling horses.

That accountability was possible because of people like you.
Your support ensures that our officers have the training, equipment, veterinary partners, and legal resources required to intervene when an animal is harmed, hidden, or at risk.

This Giving Tuesday, we are asking you to stand with us by making a donation so we can continue to fight for animals who cannot defend themselves.

Your gift today directly supports:

  • Rapid response to animals in crisis
  • Veterinary care and safe housing for seized animals
  • Evidence collection, prosecution, and courtroom advocacy
  • Specialized humane officer training
  • Community protection for horses, barn animals, pets, and livestock

Cincinnati Oz’s story is heartbreaking. But it is also a reminder that justice for animals depends on a community willing to act. When cruelty happens behind closed doors — or behind the doors of a trailer carelessly left unlatched — Rescue Village steps in. When an animal suffers in silence, our officers respond. And when a case needs to be brought before a judge, your support makes that possible.

Please give today so we can continue this work — for Oz, for every animal we protect, and for every act of compassion our community chooses to stand behind.
