Lauren’s Lucky Day

“We don’t have space available. Can you help?” It’s a question we hear often at Rescue Village. This call came from a partner rescue group, who had found an affectionate calico named Lauren on the street. The calico was scared, injured, and with nowhere to call home. It was clear the older cat needed medical attention and time to help her heal. The only problem? There was no space for her at the partner rescue.

Fortunately for Lauren, Rescue Village was able to step up and save her life. She arrived at Rescue Village in October 2024 as a stray healing from an injury. Once onsite, she was given a warm bed and much-needed medical care.

Rescue Village’s veterinary team examined Lauren upon arrival and found that she had dental disease, but that was just the beginning of Lauren’s medical journey. After being under anesthesia for her spay surgery, Lauren wasn’t recovering as expected. The cuddly calico had a fever and appeared groggy. RV’s medical team jumped into action, looking for the root cause of her symptoms. Lauren’s bloodwork indicated that she had age-appropriate kidney dysfunction, which is common in older cats.

Lauren was placed on a prescription kidney care diet and began to thrive, playing with toys and becoming an easy-going shelter resident. She found her forever home in December 2024, just in time for the holidays. Lauren spent a total of 52 days at Rescue Village.

Thanks to Rescue Village’s top-notch medical care, Lauren can spend her golden years snuggling up with her new family. Like many older cats, Lauren’s recovery might not have been possible due to her age in another shelter, but thanks to Rescue Village, she has years of purrs and cuddles left to give.
