It’s been a tough couple years for animal shelters in the United States. Shelters across America are overwhelmed and overcrowded shelters mean more animals are urgently in need of help, especially older dogs like Annie and larger dogs like Harley.
With donor support, Rescue Village is able to continue helping our rescue transport partner, Canine Express Transport Project, find homes for dogs from overcrowded shelters in southern Indiana. Dogs, like Harley, that grew up in a shelter, get all the time, care, and attention they need while we work to find them the right home.
Senior pets often need extra time to catch the attention of an adopter, too. Thanks to a generous Kia Pet Adoption Grant, we were able to waive Annie’s adoption fee, helping her find a new family in just 12 days.
Stories like Harley’s and Annie’s are possible only because of donors and supporters who give to support our mission. Rescue Village found homes for 2,170 animals last year — a 9 percent increase over 2022 — and performed nearly 2,400 surgeries to help reduce pet overpopulation and give the animals a healthy second chance.
In December 2023, Embrace Pet Insurance made an extraordinary $20,000 gift to Rescue Village to cover adoption fees and a portion of the medical costs for each animal as Rescue Village got them ready for their new homes. This included spay/neuter surgeries, vaccines, medicine, regular checkups, and more, performed by Rescue Village’s veterinary staff. Hanford Dixon and Chomps from the Cleveland Browns joined in on the adoption celebrations!
RESCUE VILLAGE SURVEY
To learn more about the community and its donors, Rescue Village created a 2024 Rescue Village Survey. The survey will remain open throughout the year with the hopes that people will share information about the programs and services that matter to them most and upload photos of their pets!
