2001: The new, state-of-the-art shelter opened in Novelty, Ohio and the name Rescue Village was born In 2001, Rescue Village’s new state-of-the-art shelter is opened in Novelty, Ohio. It is during this time Rescue Village’s name changed from The Geauga Humane Society.
2000: Rescue Village’s Walk for Animal’s name is changed to Woofstock In 2000, Rescue Village’s Walk for Animal’s change the name to Woofstock. Woofstock is RV’s annual dog festival and fundraiser. In 2023, Rescue Village hosted the 30th anniversary Woofstock with over 8,000 attendees.
1999: Rescue Village’s first Executive Director is hired In 1999, Rescue Village hires the first Executive Director, Timy Sullivan.
1998: The first humane case is won! In 1998, the first humane case is won in favor of Geauga County Humane Society. 1993: The first annual Walk for Animals is held. In 1993, Rescue Village hosted its first festival, later to be renamed Woofstock, as a community fundraiser and awareness event that dogs can come enjoy! During the first walk at the high school, $35,000 was raised for the animals at Rescue Village!
1991: Rescue Village’s Development Department is created In 1991, Rescue Village’s structure begins taking shape. The Development Department is created to improve funding to the animals at Rescue Village and improve relations with donors and companies. Along with development, both the humane officer and shelter director positions become full-time.
1989: Rescue Village’s Humane Education program launches The GHS begins going to schools and talking to classes about responsible pet ownership. Today, Rescue Village remains dedicated to education through events and programs or through volunteer opportunities.
