Domino’s Diamond

Domino, a sweet 11-year-old feline, became homeless at the beginning of 2023 when his previous owners’ assisted living facility no longer welcomed pets.

Prior to arriving at Rescue Village, he had been diagnosed with IBS. Dedicated to finding a solution to give Domino a healthier life, Rescue Village’s medical team started monitoring Domino, who began exhibiting signs of his G.I. illness upon arrival.

For nearly a month food intake and digestion were monitored, and medical staff ran blood work and tests to determine exactly what was going on.  They also took x-rays and samples to rule out other causes. After a month in care, it was determined that Domino would go several days without any symptoms but would then have a flare up, and ultimately his symptoms could be managed by a high fiber prescription diet.

While waiting to be adopted, shelter staff bonded with Domino and began setting aside special items for his future home, like a cat tree and his favorite stroller used for rides around the shelter. Domino found his diamond on March 13, 2024! Staff spent time educating the adopter on Domino’s chronic condition and she understood his condition and pledged to continue his high-fiber, prescription diet.

His adopter shared an update with photos and said, “Thank you for keeping Domino safe all this time, it feels like a blessing to wake up and see his face every morning.” Domino is now healthy and enjoying his retirement years perched on his adopter’s lap, playing mousy with his younger brother, going on stroller rides around the neighborhood and peering out of his favorite window.

Rescue Village is committed to providing outstanding veterinary care and giving each animal the attention they deserve for as long as they require and is ready to welcome back animals when a home does not work out.
